Orthodontics and Oral Surgery
Regarding the correction of tooth and jaw misalignments within adults, who show skeletally pronounced misbites it can be necessary, after taking full advantage of the conventional orthodontic methods, to perform a combined orthodontic and oral surgery therapy. Therefore, our orthodontists in Bad Homburg, Kronberg and Kelkheim work together interdisciplinarily with experienced oral surgeons.
In the context of this interdisciplinary treatment, our patients benefit from the network of specialists which offers them the most comprehensive diagnosis and an optimised therapy. In general, dentists help us in the same way as endodontists (root canal treatment), periodontists (therapeutic diseases of the tooth holding apparatus), implantologists (artificial tooth roots associated with suitable prosthetics), speech therapists (important in case of speech impairments and/or incorrect tongue position during speaking and swallowing), general practitioners, orthopaedic surgeons, psychologists and physiotherapists (usually with manual or osteopathic training).
In general, we perform the orthodontic part of the whole treatment: at the beginning, we are responsible for the pre-treatment of the dental arch and after surgery we perform the “fine tuning“ of the misalignments.
For example, surgical interventions may refer to the pre- or repositioning of the upper or lower jaw or contribute to jaw expansion.
As with all tooth or jaw movements, we have to stabilise the result after the combined treatment in order to avoid a relapse. Invisible retainers will help you to stabilise the extraordinary result of your orthodontic treatment.
